FAQs
What photography services does STUDIO NOTTINGHAM offer?
STUDIO NOTTINGHAM specialises in actor headshots, professional headshots, personal branding photography and contemporary portrait photography. Sessions are available for performers, creatives, entrepreneurs, professionals and anyone wanting natural, modern portraits.
Where is STUDIO NOTTINGHAM based?
The studio is located inside Oldknows Factory, a converted Victorian lace mill just under ten minutes’ walk from Nottingham city centre.
Is parking available?
Yes. Limited free on-street parking is available around Oldknows Factory, with several nearby pay-and-display car parks within walking distance.
Do you only photograph people in Nottingham?
No. Clients regularly travel from across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and beyond for studio sessions.
How do I choose the right photography studio in Nottingham?
Choosing a photographer isn’t just about their portfolio. Consider whether their style matches what you’re looking for, whether they specialise in the type of photography you need (such as actor headshots or personal branding), how they guide clients who aren’t comfortable in front of the camera, what their turnaround time is, and whether you’ll be involved in selecting your final images. At STUDIO NOTTINGHAM, every session includes a live image review, collaborative image selection and 48-hour delivery of professionally retouched images.
What makes a good actor headshot?
A great actor headshot should look truthful, current and full of character. Casting directors want to recognise you immediately when you walk into the room.
What makes a good professional headshot?
A good headshot should look natural, confident and recognisably like you. It shouldn’t feel overly posed, heavily edited or artificially corporate. Our aim is to create an image that represents you at your best.
Who are headshots for?
Actor headshots, LinkedIn headshots and professional portraits are suitable for performers, business owners, freelancers, executives, graduates and anyone wanting a high-quality professional image.
Are professional headshots worth it?
Absolutely. Whether you’re an actor, business owner, freelancer or job seeker, your headshot is often the first impression you make. A strong portrait builds trust, communicates professionalism and helps people remember you.
The best headshots don’t look overly polished or heavily posed. They simply look like you on your best day. A great photograph should feel current, natural and recognisable — not like a different person.
Do you photograph performers?
Yes. Arthur has spent years working alongside actors and theatre professionals, making actor headshots one of the studio’s core specialisms.
Are these photos suitable for spotlight?
Yes. Images are supplied in high resolution and are suitable for use on Spotlight, casting profiles and agency websites.
How often should I update my headshot?
Most people update their headshot every two to three years, or whenever their appearance, career or personal brand changes significantly.
What should I wear for my headshot?
Wear clothing that feels like you and reflects your profession or personality. Solid colours generally photograph better than busy patterns or large logos. For the ‘standard’ and ‘premium’ sessions, you’re welcome to bring and try multiple outfit options.
Can I change outfits?
Yes. For the ‘standard’ and ‘premium’ sessions, you’re encouraged to bring several outfit options, allowing us to create a variety of looks during your session. For a ‘lite’ session, there will only be time to photograph you in one outfit – so pick carefully!
How should I prepare for a headshots session?
The good news? You don’t need to practise poses.
Instead:
- Choose clothes you feel confident wearing (plain colours usually photograph best).
- Bring a few outfit options if you’d like some variety.
- Get a good night’s sleep and stay hydrated.
- If you wear glasses every day, bring them.
- If you’ve booked a haircut, aim to do it a few days before your session rather than on the day.
Most importantly, don’t worry about what to do in front of the camera. That’s my job. Throughout the session I’ll guide you on everything from posture to expression, and you’ll be able to review your photographs live as we shoot, so we can refine things together.
How many photos will I receive?
‘Standard’ sessions include three professionally retouched digital images, with additional photographs available to purchase if required. ‘Lite’ sessions include just one image as standard, whilst ‘premium’ sessions include ten.
How quickly will I receive my images?
Final retouched images are delivered within 48 hours. If you need the images quicker than this, it is possible to upgrade to fast-track delivery for a one-off fee of ÂŁ30.
Can I choose my own photographs?
Yes. At the end of your session we’ll review the photographs together on a professional monitor and select your favourites.
I’ve never had professional photos before. Will you help me pose?
Absolutely. In fact, most clients say exactly the same thing.
You don’t need any previous experience. Every session includes guidance on posture, expression and positioning, helping you feel comfortable in front of the camera.
What if I’m awkward in front of the camera?
Most people think they are.
The goal isn’t to force poses or fake expressions. Instead, the session is designed to feel relaxed and collaborative, resulting in portraits that feel natural rather than staged.
Can I see the photographs during the shoot?
Yes. Images are streamed live to a professional monitor throughout the session, allowing us to review and refine as we go.
How long does a session last?
‘Standard’ portrait and headshot sessions last up to 60 minutes. ‘Lite’ sessions last up to 30 minutes, whilst ‘premium’ sessions last up to 180 minutes.
Can you photograph teams?
Yes. STUDIO NOTTINGHAM offers corporate headshots and team photography for businesses across Nottingham and the East Midlands.
Can you visit my office?
Yes. On-location photography can be arranged for businesses requiring multiple staff headshots.
Do you retouch photographs?
Yes. Every selected image is professionally retouched while maintaining natural skin texture and avoiding over-editing.
Will you remove blemishes?
Temporary blemishes are removed during retouching, while permanent features such as freckles or scars are only altered if requested.
What file formats do I receive?
Final photographs are supplied as high-resolution JPEG files suitable for print, websites and social media.
Can I print my photographs?
Yes. All delivered images are suitable for high-quality printing.
